After working on a Rock and Roll book for Simon & Schuster, my client was surprised to learn I was a painter. She asked to see more of my artwork; she felt I worked in the same style that Bruce Springsteen wrote songs.
She worked with Bruce for a long time as his art director and felt we would be a good fit. We started on a few concepts at first. I think it may have started with a CD cover, and while doing that art, we then began to work on his tour book at the same time. Soon a dozen other projects followed.
Bruce sent me his music and lyrics and wanted me to hear his new songs to start work on visual ideas. He usually worked only with photographers, big ones such as Anne Leibovitz. His art director advised Bruce to be open to other media and applications for this new project we were about to embark on, allowing me in.
